Mathew Jonson Exclusive Interview 2011 (NYE MIAMI)

Mathew Jonson Exclusive Interview 2011 (NYE MIAMI)Mathew Jonson really is one of a kind. He’s developed one of the most distinctive voices in electronic dance music: when you hear one of Jonson’s tracks, you almost immediately know it’s his. And yet there’s no mistaking any given track for another. His music offers a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality. With a keen understanding for the needs of the dancefloor and the universal laws of house and techno, he’s thrown out the rule book time and time again, sneaking tricks learned from electro and even drum’n’bass into minimal clubs, and loading up his B-sides with tracks that do what they damned well please. (No kick drum? No problem.) This time we have a special invitation for you, MedellinStyle.com presents its first international party. SYMPHONY OF THE APOKALYPSE! this 31 of December with ELON and MATHEW JONSON live! If you want to know him more, here we have some answers from this electronic music mastermind!

Mathew Jonson Exclusive Interview 2011 (NYE MIAMI)1 If Fear is the mind stopper. What is the love stopper?
Nothing can stop Love.

2 You said in our first interview 4 years ago, mp3 is for lazy djs? whats your position about now ?
Still the same. Mp3’s sound like glass and have no depth so if your a dj and you play them you obviously don’t really care about sound. Wav or Aiff files are bigger and so obviously take more time to download but are worth the extra effort if you play digital. When you think about it it’ss still easier than hauling a record crate around.

3 We hear you were a lifeguard, do you think music can at least “save” lives , say consciousness, awareness or culture ?
Good music brings hope to people and inspires them to be strong.

Mathew Jonson Exclusive Interview 2011 (NYE MIAMI)4 Do you still doesn’t use any piece of software for your lives?
I have used Ableton Live as part of my live set since 2004. I use it to play the recordings of the equipment from the studio I can not take on the plane. I still don’t use plug in synths in my live but I am trying to learn. Its hard for me to make them sound good.

5 What is the most important part of the electronic music spirit.
That it captures an emotion.

6 What have you felt about banality and war in the humanity ?
Governments make war while the people want peace. Its a sad topic. People need to vote and be more active in politics so that we can make a change. The system is made to keep us down.

7 When are you coming back to Medellin, your Latinamerican home?
Hopefully soon!
