In 2000, the DEMF: Detroit Electronic Music Festival was the first electronic music festival in the United States. It was produced in Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit, created by Carol Marvin, and produced by her team at Pop Culture Media. It was hosted on Memorial Day weekend through 2002. Since that point in time, a variety of others were given Hart Plaza by ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick for their own electronic music events on Memorial Day weekend. Although on the same weekend of the year and in the same venue, they had no affiliation whatsoever with the DEMF or Detroit Electronic Music Festival or Carol Marvin and Pop Culture Media.
It’s exciting for us to know that the DEMF: Detroit Electronic Music Festival will once again invite the whole world to come together to dance and have fun at no cost in the very near future….Please stay tuned….. :)
