También llamado Latin Hip Hop en sus comienzos, es un estilo influenciado por la cultura latinoamericana. Se originó en Nueva York y Miami a principios de los ‘80. Inicialmente, era una fusión de estilos vocales Disco de los ‘70 con el sincopado e instrumentación sintética del Electro de los ‘80. También fue influenciado por el sampleo del Hip Hop. En los ‘90, las influencias Hip Hop y Electro fueron suplantadas por el House. El tempo del Freestyle se ubica entre los 110 y 130 bpm. Tiene un estilo Dance con énfasis en los beats 2 y 4, sincopado sobre una línea de bajos, un synth principal o percusión, con stabs opcionales, relativamente complejo, melodías con compases débiles, con temas acerca del amor y el baile.
