DJ Richie Hawtin Gets Assaulted, Keeps on Spinning (Via: spinner.com)

Seminal DJ Richie Hawtin has established himself as a genre-leader with his off-the-wall parties and willingness to push the boundaries of electronic music. As this year’s Winter Music Conference draws near, Hawtin is gearing up for the mayhem in Miami.

Hawtin talked with Spinner about conferences, saying his “most memorable experience was getting forcibly detained while I was supposed to DJ records.” Yes, Richie was assaulted during his set at Nocturnal and dragged out of the club for behavior deemed inapropriate by the staff (see photos of the incident after the jump). The other DJs decided not to continue without the head honcho.

In the spirit of old-school rave ethics, the techno-militia then set out to find another club to keep the party going, while at the same time being blacklisted via phone calls to clubs throughout Miami. Hawtin and his cohorts eventually landed at what I consider to be the best venue in Miami — the Pawn Shop Lounge — to play a surprise set. When you are Richie Hawtin, you get show up and jump on the decks anytime, anywhere.

If you are planning to make the trip to Miami this year, be sure not to miss Richie’s M_NUS showcase at the Pawn Shop Lounge with a slew of other minimal masters including Adam Beyer, Loco Dice and new-school Detoit kingpin Matthew Dear.
