At this point should not need introduction to most of you, say that has been active since about 2008, having published in several major labels such as Bedrock or Drumcode, but now he is heavily involved in his own, 8 Sided Dice Records. This Saturday ALAN FITZPATRICK will be playing for first time in Medellín, Fuckoffanddance2013 will be a night to remember!
1 – When and how did you released your first record?
The first record of mine which I think really made a difference for me was a track called 9 Hours Later on my own label – 8 Sided Dice – which was really big for Dubfire and ended up at number 3 in Beatport’s techno chart.
2 – Whats does 8 sided dice mean?
I really enjoy gambling and an 8 sided dice is a special dice used in gambling games. I just liked the name!
3 – How did you meet John Digweed and Adam Beyer, did their labels influenced in your sound?
I met both of them only after I had released on their labels but I have been fans of their labels forever, more so Drumcode but I do own a few Bedrock records. The first time I met Adam was at the Drumcode show at Berghain in Berlin in 2009. John I met a few months earlier in Summer 2009 at an afterparty in London.
4 – What are the biggest differences you see from the Uk Techno, Swedish Techno and German Techno ?
Musically there is not a huge difference as everyone is influenced by each other. In terms of the parties I have played in those countries I would say Germany is the best as the crowds are always so good. It can be great in UK for example at Fabric in London. I have played a few times in Sweden and it is decent but nothing like the others.
5 – Why and whats your favorite BPM for techno music right now?
Anywhere between 127 and 129 for my peak time sets but I do often play 119-125 if Im playing earlier or at an afterhours.
6 – Do you have a predefined curve in your sets, going from melodies to harder sounds, or you prefer to play more as random?
I always have an idea of what I want to play but I always like to play it by ear and put the set together on the fly depending on how the crowd is reacting
7 – What makes you kick a crowd? whats your description or components of a high state of mind-party-soul ?
For me the ingredients of a good party are a good venue and a good sound system and that creates the atmosphere. From there the crowd come alive. It also helps if the crowd know your music and are excited about you playing.
8 – Where are you seeing the next generation of techno inspiration?
The new producers who I am really into at the moment at Psyk, Bryan Chapman, Jon Gurd and Patrick Siech. Im playing a lot of their music and they will be big names in the future.
9 – How do you balance your profession with your real life? hows a normal day without working in Alan´s life ?
I am a family man so much of my time away from music is spent with my son going to the park or just chilling at home.
10 – To end add a word in front of each concept:
PROGRESSIVE HOUSE: fuck
TECHNO: long live
HUMAN RACE: human reason
